土壤儲存溫室氣體

你我都可以減少溫室效應盡一份力!一起提升土壤碳元素吧!

溫室效應造成全球氣候劇烈異常, 其實我們可以為環境盡一份心力!法國在COP21 巴黎氣候峰會中提出千分之四的概念 (4 per 1000 initiative). 研究發現, 在農地裡的土壤提升土壤碳素含量4‰ (0.4%), 能夠有效延緩溫室效應惡化, 將全球平均溫升控制在2°C以下.

全球碳元素以有機質的型態儲存於土壤中約1.5兆噸. 若提升4‰的碳元素含量, 將可以儲存更多環境中的二氧化碳 [1-2].

ENN (Environmental News Network) 報導指出, 目前世界上的土壤還能夠再儲存80億噸的溫室氣體, 利用碳素與適當的農業施作, 能夠讓土壤儲存約4/5每一年燃燒石化原料所排放的溫室氣體排放量 [3].

土壤內的有機質主要是碳元素, 可以幫助土壤涵養水份, 肥分與維持生態的多樣性. 提升碳素含量不僅可以幫助農產量, 也能夠提升溫室氣體的儲藏與循環. 減緩溫室效應, 需要大家一起努力. 只要土壤被覆蓋的面積越大, 有機質的生成就越豐富[1].

  4. 復育旱地

Soil mitigates greenhouse gas.

We should be responsible for the green house effect. The 4‰ Initiative launched by France is demonstrating the rise of green house gas storage by increasing the carbon in the organic matters in soil, proven by scientific study. The Initiative invites more people to participate the program to join the environment protection by greenhouse gas elimination. It also helps to promise the productivity of the farms, job opportunities and incomes as a sustainable cycle in agriculture [1-3].

Organic matter in the soil, mainly composed of carbon, is an important role in the ecosystem to obtain resistance to soil erosion, soil water retention, soil fertility for plants and soil biodiversity. The suggestion of the more carbon storage includes below [1,2].

  1. Never leave soil bare and work it less.
  2. Introduce more intermediate crops, more row intercropping and more grass strips.
  3. Add to the hedges at field boundaries and develop agroforestry.
  4. Optimise pasture management
  5. Restore land in poor condition

According to the report in ENN (Environmental News Network), the soils in the world may be able to  store an extra 8 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases based on the research. It’s effective to limit the impacts of climate change. Planting the crops of deep root systems and using charcoal-based composts and applying sustainable agriculture practices helps soils retain the equivalent of around 4/5 of annual emissions from burning of fossils fuels [3].
